Jalandhar : A seminar on e-waste was held at Mehr Chand Polytechnic College, Jalandhar to create awareness among students.Principal S Jagroop Singh and JS Ghera, head of the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), were also present at the seminar. Prof Lakhbir Singh, president, PAHAL, from DAV College, Jalandhar, and Liyakatbir Singh, Executive Director, PAHAL, shared their views on the topic with students and the college staff. Preet Kanwal, a lecturer, ECE, welcomed the guests. JS Ghera gave a floral welcome to Prof Lakhbir Singh and Liyakatbir Singh.
Liyaktbir Singh aware people about various harmful effect of E-waste They told that metals, non-metals (plastics, PTFE, PVC, Silicon liquid) and other chemicals that were used for manufacturing electronic gadgets provide livelihood but a leakage of gases and dangerous radiations from e-waste material like cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb) were responsible for polluting the environment and also occupy much space.
Usha Kiran Chawla, HoD Applied Sciences, Prince Madan, HoD, Computer Engg, S Mandeep Singh, lecturer, ECE, Navita Komal lecturer, ECE, were also present on the occasion.
The Post graduate department of English of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (KMV), Jalandhar, organised an extension lecture on 'Language, Culture and Identity'. Dr ZN Patil, former Prof and Head, the department of training and development English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, was the chief guest.
Dr ZN Patil elaborated on the different nuances of the topic. Students of MA English attended the lecture.
