A 14-month-old child fell from his fourth-floor home in Mumbai on Thursday but survived and is being treated in hospital for serious injuries. His fall was interrupted by a tree. At the family's home in Gopi Krishan building on BS Devashi Road, the infant's grandmother had opened the window to retrieve clothes left out for drying. However, she failed to realise that the window had not shut properly, reported Hindustan Times. Since the window in question had no safety grille, Atharva ran up to the window and fell out.
As little Atharva Barkade fell, he was caught in the branches of a tree right next to the building, which cushioned his fall and reduced the impact of what could have been a fatal drop. He has suffered injuries to his lip, foot and liver.Atharva's parents rushed him to two nearby hospitals but he was later shifted to the Fortis Hospital in Mulund where he is currently being kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
