Jamiat Ulama sends legal notice to UP Shia Waqf chairman for its anti-madrasa statements

Maharashtra wing of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind (JUH) sent a legal notice to UP Shia Waqf Board chairperson, Waseem Rizvi for his letter to the Prime Minister (PM) calling madrasas terrorists producing centres. The body has sought a written apology from Rizvi for his controversial statements while also demanding Rs 20 crores as defamatory damages to the body.
The letter states that Rizvi has made his statements with an intent to harm the Sunni community and create a rift between Shias and Sunnis.
The legal notice has been sent by JUH working committee member, Maulana Mustaqeem Ahsan Azmi who is also the president of Jamiat Ulama Maharashtra.
Rizvi's letter to the PM and also UP chief minister (CM) on January 9 had stated that madrasas transforming Indian Muslims into terrorists and that they have produced more terrorists than civil servants, doctors or engineers.
