Srinagar: Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander Naveed Jatt who has been involved in the murder of ‘Rising Kashmir’ journalist Shujaat Bukhari and another militiant were killed in a gun battle with security forces in central Kashmir’s Budgam.
The gun battle broke out after security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Budgam in the morning following information about the presence of militants there.Internet services in Budgam have been snapped as a precautionary measure. Three security personnel were also killed during the clash.
“He was really a headache for the forces and several operations were launched to trap him. Finally, we trapped him in central Kashmir,’’ a top police officer said. Naveed had been arrested by the Army from Kulgam district of south Kashmir earlier in June 2014 and had been lodged in Srinagar’s high security central prison.
Bukhari, who was the Editor-in-Chief of the daily Rising Kashmir, was killed in June 2018. He was shot dead by terrorists outside his office
