Today the opposition leaders will be in a meeting to discuss their presidential poll strategy as the process started for the filing of nominations for the July 17 election to the country's top constitutional post.
All 10 members of the opposition sub-group formed for this purpose met in the chambers of the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, sources said.It is to be noted this is the first meeting of the sub-group since its formation a few days ago.
Azad said opposition parties have not shortlisted any candidate for presidential polls. They will meet for further discussion after meeting with the BJP committee.A three-member BJP panel comprising three senior ministers- Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley and M Venkaiah Naidu- is slated to meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi for discussions on Friday. They will further meet CPMs Sitaram Yechury. Venkaiah Naidu spoke to BSP's SC Mishra and NCPs Praful Patel as well. Naidu was told that the parties will firm up their stand only after their meetings with the committee.If consensus not happen, it is expected to put up a united candidate against the official NDA.
