Kannur: 3 CPM workers suspected to be directly involved in the murder of activist Shamej at New Mahe earlier this month, have been arrested from a lodge in Vadakara on Saturday.
Shamej was an auto rickshaw driver. He was pulled out of his auto and attacked by a 6 member gang at New Mahe in Kannur. This happened barely within an hour, when CPM leader Babu Kannapoyil was hacked to death on 6th of May this year, in Palloor. The arrest of Shamej's murder accused has happened after 2 weeks of his death. It is said that CPM ruling party got involved in this murder case, so the arrest got delayed.
Both CPM and BJP had observed a hartal on 8th of May this year, in Kannur district and Mahe, to protest against both these killings.
